Fast-track your career in a generalist role.

Diversify your skillset. Be involved in all areas of a startup.
Take on one of the following roles:

Founder's Associate

Founder’s Associates are generalists that work directly with a company’s founder (usually the CEO) on strategic initiatives, marketing, operations, sales, fundraising, and more. This role is a fantastic opportunity to get to know the ins-and-outs of startup building. You’ll get an overview of a variety of business areas, allowing you to go deeper in fields that you’re curious about.Common progression opportunities include Chief of Staff (basically, a more senior generalist), individual contributor or even management (think: Head of X) positions in whichever field you feel comfortable in, or founding a startup yourself. Often, former Founder’s Associates make for the best founders.

Growth Associate

A Growth Associate executes growth strategies to expand a company’s customer base. This role involves a mix of strategic thinking, creativity, and hardcore execution. You might be optimizing marketing campaigns, working with the product team to increase growth, tinker with sales processes or even plan and execute your own growth initiatives.Common progression opportunities include Head of Growth or Head of Marketing.

Venture Developer / EiR

Venture Developers (or Entrepreneurs in Residence, EiR) ideate, test, and execute new strategic initiatives in a scale-up. This role tends to have a lot of freedom to try things and see what sticks, work directly with the founders, and gain holistic experience in building a business from zero to one.EiRs often progress to then found their own company, or take on a management role in the division they’ve helped launch.

Chief of Staff

Chiefs of Staff usually have a bit more experience and often act as sounding board to executives, coordinate cross-departmental initiatives, streamline communication, or take on special projects like mergers & acquisitions or internal strategic initiatives. This role is for generalists who want to progress their career without specializing, and common progression opportunities include VP or even C-Level positions.

How It Works

1. Apply & Interview

1. Apply with your CV in ~2 minutes.2. We’ll review your application within a day or two, and if we believe you might be a great fit, we’ll invite you to a 40-minute video interview.3. If the interview goes well, we’ll invite you to the next Generalyst cohort and have a kickoff call

2. Founders pitch their roles to you

1. In each cohort (that run once every 1-2 months), we organize a “demo day” where founders come in and pitch their roles. So you can feel what that startup actually feels like.2. Startups can also browse your profile and apply to you for roles that they think you’d be perfect for.3. It takes about four weeks to secure a role. You can also participate in the cohort while still working full-time.

3. Fast-track the interview process, together with us

1. Nailing the interview takes practice. So we’ll help you prepare for it.2. You might do: live interview practice, study standard interview questions, or have advice sessions with alumni3. Most interview processes last two weeks

4. Land your role & join the community

1. Once you’ve received your offer and signed your contract, you’ll join the Generalyst community.2. Expect: access to online courses and training materials, alumni events in Berlin or Munich, a Slack channel with other Generalyst alumni & the Generalyst team, office hours with our founder Dominik, ad-hoc career advice and much more.3. And the best part: it won’t cost you anything!

About Generalyst Recruiting

Dominik Nitsch
Founder & CEO

After graduating from university, I had no idea what I wanted to do: all the jobs available were asking me to specialize, but I didn’t want to - I wanted to do a variety of things. Now, I’m building the program that I wish I would’ve had as a graduate.I believe that the future belongs to generalists. The world is changing at an ever faster pace, and specializations relevant today might not be relevant tomorrow. Generalist skills like problem solving, critical thinking, communications, and selling on the other hand, will become more relevant than ever.Accelerating your career as a generalist by becoming a Founder’s Associate (or similar) is one of the best things you can do to future-proof your career.Besides building Generalyst Recruiting, I also write a newsletter about generalist careers, host an online course about productivity, play Lacrosse at an international level, and enjoy lifting weights and drinking beers. In the past, I’ve built a recruiting agency that brings medical professionals from Italy & Brazil to Germany (while teaching them German at lightspeed), participated in the Entrepreneur First program, and most recently built up the international business from the ground up for a German EdTech scale-up.
