How we select our candidates.

Hiring Generalists is different: in most roles (sales, engineering), you can use skill-based assessments. For Generalists, this doesn't work: they're specialists in meta skills. This is what we look for instead:

Got questions? We have answers. Everything you need to know about the process, the startups, and how we fast-track your career.

We work with commercial generalists with a broad range of experience – from recent graduate to former entrepreneurs.

All candidates have a business background; most have worked either in a start-up/scale-up or in PE, VC, or consulting.

We believe soft skills matter more than hard skills. Those are often found in non-linear CVs. Because you can't expect non-linear results from linear people.

We mostly work with companies in DACH, specifically in Berlin, Munich, and Vienna.

~50% of candidates in the pool are geographically flexible – so if you're not based in one of those three cities, let's talk anyway. We might still be able to help you, even if the experience isn't going to be as mind-blowing.

Our existing clients pay full price, so we don't really do arbitrary discounts – that would be unfair to them.

That being said, there are 2 ways for you to pay less:

  1. We believe in aligned incentives. The biggest predictor for success is a fast hiring process. So if you make an offer within 14 days of the first screening interview with a candidate, the success fee is reduced to 15% of first-year salary.
  2. If you haven't raised a seed round yet (meaning you're bootstrapping, haven't raised at all, or just a pre-seed), we're happy to craft an individual offer for you. Just email us at dominik@generalyst.de.

The 18% are applied to the first-year base salary. Variable salaries, bonuses, and equity are not considered. The price excludes VAT (in case that's not self-explanatory).

No. Part of the reason why we can offer the business model that we have is precisely because we don't do active sourcing.

If you need a highly specific hire (eg. a Head of Sales with 10+ years of experience in D2C platforms), we're happy to recommend partner agencies that do this better than we can.
